At the outbreak of the Civil War many students and faculty at the University of Mississippi quit and enlisted. Many formed into Company A, 11th Miss. Infantry or the University Greys. Their most famous incident of the war was Pickett’s Charge at Gettysburg. All were killed or wounded.
