Gimme Some Holiday Fun
Children and Family Day at the Memphis Cotton Museum
Don’t wait for snow! Plan a family outing to the Gimme Some Holiday Fun: Children and Family Day at the Cotton Museum on December 14, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Join The Cotton Museum staff and museum friend Laurie Triplette, author of Gimme Some Sugar Darlin’, for a day of holiday programming tailored just for kids and parents. The festivities promise, if anything, a sleepy car ride home for the children and an opportunity for the parents to pick up some holiday tips and special gifts.
The fun family day is packed with family-oriented activities, including cooking demonstrations with Laurie tailored both for children and for adults, holiday-themed crafts for kids, face painting, balloon animals and Music for Aardvarks. Santa himself will make a special appearance. Admission to the Cotton Museum is free during the festivities, and staff will conduct complimentary tours of the museum’s history exhibitions.
Schedule of events:
10:00- 12:00: Face painting and sing-a-long
11:00-11:45: Make Chocolate Trash Candy with Laurie Triplette
12:00-2:00: Balloon animals and sing-a-long
12:00-2:00: Visit with Santa
1:00-1:45: Make Spice Rubs and Party Food with Laurie Triplette
All Day: Festive snacks, warm drinks, and seasonal crafts.
Saturday’s events feature a book signing and two cooking demonstrations by Laurie Triplette, the charismatic HottyToddy.com blogger and author of Give Me Some Sugar Darlin’. Triplette will share tips on how to knock out all those holiday gifts and party food at one time. She will have on hand samples of recipes pulled straight from the cookbook’s compendium of heirloom and modern recipes, and might just share some of her homey tips, stories and Southern turns of phrase.
