Amy Head Cosmetics: New Seasons, New Looks

Published

on

Every season, Amy Head Cosmetics gets a new line of products that sets the makeup trend in Oxford. For customers, this means that as the seasons change, so do their makeup routines.

Modie Piperi, Amy Head makeup artist and junior at Ole Miss, is a big fan of the new spring line. “My favorite new product is the mineral glaze,” she said. “It is just a pure highlight that you can throw on when you have no makeup on. It gives you a light, beachy feel and brightens up your face, no matter the occasion.”
As hottytoddy.com interns, we decided it would be fun to test out the products for ourselves.

Joanie: When I went in to Amy Head, I told Modie that I tend to stick to the basics when it comes to makeup. I don’t wear a lot, and I like to use light colors and keep things simple. She told me she knew exactly what to do. Using the “silk” mineral foundation to match my skin-tone, Modie got to work and made me look glam. She told me that she wanted to play up my features, without using anything too dark or strong. Using the new spring eye-shadows, Modie applied light colors to my lids. She finished up with a neutral blush and a bright lip!

Maggie: While Joanie got her look done with the new product line, I decided to stick to the basics. Claire Wright, makeup artist and manager of the Oxford Amy Head location, hooked me up with classic look that I can wear during the day and out at night.
For my look, Claire picked colors that matched my skin tone and gave my skin a clear, even foundation. My “peaches and cream skin tone,” as Claire calls it, looks best with light colors to highlight my eyes. With my defined eyes ready, it was time to line them with pearl eyeliner. This pearl polish contrasts with my brown eyes and made them pop! Last, but not least, Claire used a gold highlight to connect it to my blonde hair. To top it all off, Claire touched up my lips with a pink lipstick that had an orange shimmer and a brush of blush on the apples of my cheeks.
I left the makeup chair thrilled about my new look, educated on a color pallet that works for me, and with a new friend in a true artist.

Tips straight from Amy Head: Both Claire and Modie told us that it is important to connect the different features of your face. “You need to connect your eye shadow color with your cheek color, and then connect the [eye color] to the lip color,” Wright said. It is important to look at a client’s skin complexion and then ask them about their daily makeup and face-care routine.

“Amy’s goal is to not throw somebody into something that they are not going to wear,” Piperi said. “You need to be comfortable in what kind of makeup we are putting you in, so we ask you questions.”
Maggie and I agree that we had a little too much fun doing this product review. Not only did we enjoy the makeup, but also the great company. Amy Head is full of great products, great talent, and most importantly, great people!
