There’s no shortage of banks in Oxford, but only a couple of locally founded and operated institutions. Oxford University Bank is one of those and they’ve recently opened a new branch on University Ave.
On July 30, Oxonians can mark their calendars for the grand opening at the new two-floor facility. Right now, the bank at 1500 University, is already doing a brisk business just a few lots down from the old Oxford University Bank site on University.
Banks are banks, you say. David Guyton, Oxford University Bank president and CEO, says take another look. “We are one of only two locally owned banks in town and that translates into local decisions made by people who live and work here,” he explained. “We’re not here for the short term. Unlike some of your bigger, corporately owned banks, we’re not moving from city to city. We’re here to serve Oxford with the best banking products available.”
Gant Boone, David Guyton and Terry Baker get ready for another busy day.

Guyton adds that local ownership can facilitate quicker decisions on loans and other transactions. The bank offers a full complement of commercial and personal loans. “We don’t have to call Atlanta to get a decision made,” Guyton said. “Money made in this business is re-invested in the community.”
Kasasa Checking is one of those quality products is what Guyton describes as the best personal checking service in town that features personal flexibility to receive cash back or a  high interest rate on your checking account with free ATM service nationwide.
Alison Cullum puts friendly customer service at the top of her priorities.

Guyton came to Oxford University Bank from two other area banks in 2010. He has great appreciation for the founding directors who opened the original facility here in 2000. “It’s not easy to start a bank as a local group,” he said. “You have to raise capital and ensure you’ve carefully complied with an amazing complexity of rules and regulations.”
Guyton says he is now one of the old timers on what has evolved into a young staff. It’s a staff that puts a premium on comprehensive customer attention. In addition to the above-and-beyond service, the new facility offers a much larger lobby and office space for the convenience of employees and customers. Plenty of parking off of busy University Ave. is another perk of the new structure and lot.
The new lobby is spacious and comfortable.

“Because of our growth in assets and customers, we simply ran out of space in our prior location,” Guyton added. “So,when we had the opportunity to purchase this space only three lots up from the old bank, we realized we could greatly enhance our entire operation.”
Gant Boone, loan officer and marketing manager, is one of those young, friendly faces on the OUB team. “In this day and age when you see a bank on every street corner, few of these organizations can call Oxford home,” Boone said. “We do call Oxford home. We think of our institution as a true Oxford original.”
Oxford University Bank has 28 employees and an addition branch in Ponotoc. Hours are 9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Fridays.
