Every week after Sunday night mass, members of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church can indulge in a spaghetti supper for only $2.
The meal includes spaghetti with meat sauce, a salad with choice of dressing, garlic bread, dessert and a drink.
This was my first experience at the weekly dinner and I was very impressed. Everyone who attended ranged from college students, to families, to the elderly. It was an event that made me feel a part of a community, as if all are welcome (and they definitely are).
Ole Miss student Nichole Nammour said she would describe Spaghetti dinner as, “one word: delicious.”
“I go to spaghetti dinner for the good food and fellowship,” Nammour said. “My favorite part about spaghetti dinner is spending time with my friends and the dessert.”
Nammour is only one of the many students who attended spaghetti dinner. On average, spaghetti dinner feeds 100 to 125 people each week. That is a lot of full tummies every Sunday night.
Each week a new set of hands conduct the cooking. According to Terry Richmond, parishioners volunteer to prepare the meal.
With great food and friends, who wouldn’t want to keep coming back every week?
