Local bass player George Sheldon opened the Longshot Bar & Grill in June, 2002. Featuring a tastefully stocked jukebox, photo booth, and plenty of colorful characters, the Longshot also boasted a cheeseburger that became famous almost overnight, as well as live music. A photo of Jerry Lee Lewis loomed from the backbar, summing up the Longshot’s attitude.

The Longshot closed several years ago, and the space is presently occupied by Tre Amici, on Jackson just off the Square.

Here’s a like-new, unused matchbook with a photo booth photo of the illustrious Sheldon and his cat inside.

Do you have any mementos of bygone people, places, and things in Oxford? Email tad.wilkes@hottytoddy.com and let us know. Maybe we’ll feature it in Oxford Artifacts.
