Charger Baseball Heads to Mississippi 5A Finals after Big Win over New Hope

Published

It’s been a big year for sports in Oxford. The University of Mississippi teams have all seen different levels of success, including a sweep of in-state rival Mississippi State in the big three, but last weekend, it was the Oxford High School baseball team who stole the show.

The nationally ranked Chargers defeated New Hope 10-3 Saturday to win the 5A North State finals and move on to the finals against George County.

New Hope eliminated Oxford last year before taking the crown home. This is the first appearance for the Chargers since 2005, winning their last and only title.

Game one of the best-of-three state finals is set for Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m., at Trustmark Park in Pearl. Game two will be Thursday night at 7 p.m.
