The 2015 Oxford High School (OHS) Marine Corps Junior ROTC Cadet of the Year is incoming OHS sophomore and Marine Corps Junior ROTC Cadet Sergeant Javeria Williams.
Williams, an OHS honor roll student, was honored as the unit’s outstanding cadet because of her consistent superior performance in the school’s Junior ROTC Leadership Education course and her overall academic achievements during the 2014-2015 school year.
“She demonstrated exceptional leadership, discipline, character, military bearing and military proficiency,” said Senior Marine Instructor Colonel Doug Cromwell, who oversees the OHS Marine Corps Junior ROTC program.
Williams was also awarded the American Legion Bronze Medal for Military Excellence and meritoriously promoted to her present rank of Cadet Sergeant in the OHS Marine Corps Junior ROTC unit. Williams is the daughter of Yvonne Tyson.
