Oxford High Schooler Grant Daniels knows sports and how to get people hyped up about them. That’s why he will serve as HottyToddy.com’s official Sports Correspondent starting this fall, covering everything from Charger and Commodore sports to the Ole Miss “big leagues.”
This isn’t Grant’s first go at covering sports. He’s been covering the SEC on Instagram for a while, and currently, Grant has more than 9,000 Instagram followers on his sports-themed account.
“I’ve always liked college football and watching Sports Center,” he said. “That’s what made me want to start covering sports.”
Grant is a big fan of sports news. He follows the major sports news outlets, and he’s thinking about emphasizing in sports news journalism when he goes to college in a few years. “I hope to get some good experience by doing this,” Grant said. “This stuff will help carry me through college and one day, a career.”
One might say that Grant was destined for a career in sports. His grandfather is Warner Alford, 1960 Ole Miss Rebel football SEC champion, Mississippi Sports Hall of Famer and former Ole Miss athletic director. “I used to go with him to games and sporting events all the time,” Grant said. “I’ve spent a whole lot of time in the Grove.”
Grant’s great-grandfather was Ole Miss sports legend and former baseball coach Tom Swayze. “When you think about it, I guess sports is a family thing,” Grant said with a smile.
Grant will be in the 10th grade this fall, and when he’s not following sports, he enjoys hanging out with his friends, fishing and playing sports himself. “I’m really into golf,” he said. Grant is the son of Phyllis and Darrell Daniels of Oxford.
