Fenton Kottkamp Memorial Scholarship Surpasses $80,000
The Fenton Kottkamp Memorial Scholarship has reached and surpassed its initial goal of $60,580.
The campaign closed at midnight on November 21 with $80,684 total. The memorial scholarship honors the late University of Mississippi student who passed away after an accident on a snowy February 25, 2015, in Oxford. Fenton Kottkamp was a senior accounting major who planned on pursuing a master’s in accounting after graduation this past May.
Kottkamp interned for Papa John’s for two summers, and in gratitude, the company’s founder and CEO John Schnatter with his wife Annette joined Archie and Olivia Manning, the “First family of football,” to create the memorial scholarship to benefit accountancy and business students.
This past weekend, the Schnatters attended the Ole Miss v. LSU game where the Oxford Papa John’s franchisee donated a dollar per pizza sale during the game.
Annette Schnatter wrote in the letter as issued by Ignite Ole Miss: “We are grateful for the outpouring of support to the Fenton Kottkamp Memorial Scholarship, not only surpassing the goal of $60,580 but also exceeding the stretch goal of $80,000! … By meeting this campaign goal, three students within the Accountancy and Business schools will be awarded scholarships each year.”
Hundreds of donors helped make Fenton Kottkamp’s scholarship a reality. Many have donated money in numbers significant to Fenton Kottkamp’s memory: $23 for his would-be 23rd birthday this past September, $52 for the year his fraternity Phi Kappa Psi was founded (1852), $98 for his beloved dog Bugg’s age in dog years, and $251 for the number of yards Ole Miss Rebels gained on Alabama this year.
