Oxford Takes On Starkville Tonight In Little Egg Bowl
Oxford will take on Starkville tonight in what has been dubbed the “Little Egg Bowl”.
Both teams are 1-0 on the season as defending 6A Champion Starkville knocked off defending 4A Champion Noxubee County last week, while defending North Half Runner Up Oxford defeated Southaven.
Much of the star power from last year’s contest, a Starkville victory, is gone as A.J. Brown and D.K. Metcalf are at Ole Miss now, while Oxford quarterback Jack Abraham is at Louisiana Tech.
The teams do have one Ole Miss commit a piece as the Chargers have Devin Rockette and the Yellowjackets have senior linebacker Willie Gay. Both players committed to the Rebels over the summer.
Last year, Oxford was beaten up front as the Yellow Jackets took a 20-7 victory over the Chargers. In 2014, Oxford had problems stopping Starkville through the air, as the Chargers took a 52-29 loss. Oxford’s last win in the rivalry was a 35-24 victory in 2013.
