Oxford Alderman Howell in Critical Condition After Stroke

Oxford Ward 4 Alderman Ulysses “Coach” Howell is in critical condition in a Memphis after suffering from a stroke Friday morning, according to Mayor Robyn Tannehill.

Howell has served as an alderman since 1993. He has also served as mayor pro-tem, or deputy mayor, for almost two decades.

Prior to becoming an alderman, he served 37 years with the Oxford School District, starting as a coach and ending his career as assistant principal at Oxford High School. He retired in 1990.

“He was transported to Memphis where he is surrounded by family praying for a miracle. Please join us in lifting up this incredible man who is fighting the good fight,” Tannehill said on Twitter Saturday afternoon.
