Black Friday Morphs to Black Thursday Night at Walmart

At 6:30 this Friday morning, there were few people shopping, no lines and only a few cash registers were open — because Black Friday happened Thursday night as sales began at 6 p.m.

The only evidence of a crowd was shelves in disarray and what looked like a ton of discarded product at the return counter.
“This is merchandise that people dropped on the floor or put in the wrong place as they left last night. Maybe they picked up an item in the rush, then changed their minds,” a worker said.
James, the long time greeter at the front door, said “we open all night, we never close except on Christmas. When I came in this morning at 4 a.m. there were just a few people, and some others began to trickle into the store.”
Another worker recalled the days when long lines were at the door which opened at 5 a.m on Black Friday. Several people were injured in the stampede of people at one WalMart so the retail giant stopped having door busters, electing to remain open and announce a start time.
Despite the Thursday night rush, the few customers in the store early Friday morning were mostly interested in 50″ TVs that were on sale for less than $300.
