A graduate student in the Meek School for multimedia journalism at University of Mississippi, Ashley Norwood interviewed seven Ole Miss students what they remembered of Hurricane Katrina a decade after.
Norwood asked them: “What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear Hurricane Katrina?”
All natives of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, some students brought up vivid memories. One remembered riding in an 18-wheeler with his uncle and a friend post-Katrina. Another remembered a stray cat bringing its four kittens to her house for shelter during the hurricane. And another remembered swimming out of the back window with his family through the flooded neighborhood to Highway 613.
