The University of Mississippi Office of Health Promotion and the Student Activities Association are teaming up to bring University of Silent Disco to campus Thursday (April 21) at the Turner Center.

The dance event, set for 10 p.m. to midnight, is free to Ole Miss students with a student ID. Attendees will need tennis shoes for entry.

University of Silent Disco is a commercial silent dance party provider. The company provides wireless headphones for attendees to listen to a variety of stations, so participants can dance to the music of their choosing and control the volume to their liking.

USD has staged events at dozens of other schools, including Vanderbilt and Tulane universities, LSU, UCLA and the universities of Arkansas, Florida and Southern California, over the last 10 years.

“The University of Silent Disco has been to several schools, and we thought it would be a good event to offer our student body,” UM health educator Takilya “T” Davis said. “This is a social opportunity offered to our students to have fun in a safe and alcohol-free environment.”

This is the first year for Silent Disco at Ole Miss. For the Throwback Thursday theme, students can choose between stations that play music from the 2000s, Top 40 hits and R&B/hip hop.

“I am really excited to attend the event,” said Ali Delgado, a senior exercise science major from Memphis and student health advocate. “I think it is going to be so much fun and stress-free without the social pressures of alcohol.

“With the school year coming to an end, it will be a fun and exciting opportunity to have fun with friends, get involved with other members of the student body and relieve end-of-the-year stresses.”
