On Wednesday, the Student Activities Association presented the 64th annual Parade of Beauties at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts on the University of Mississippi campus.
The 2014 winner was freshman Reade Heredia from Columbus. Miss. Heredia competed against 93 other contestants for the crown.
Nathan Darce, coordinator of student affairs, described the different elements of the competition and how the contestants are scored. Ten percent of each girl’s score comes from a set of interview questions asked on stage, while the remaining 90 percent is based on her choice of evening gown.

“After the field is reduced to the Top 25, the contestants compete again in evening gowns,” Darce said. “From the Top 25 contestants, the Top 10 and Most Beautiful are selected.”
The Parade of Beauties began in 1950 when Janelle Green was selected Most Beautiful.
The winner receives a crown, courtesy of Lammon’s Fine Jewelry, a teeth whitening treatment from Lee Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, and the opportunity to ride in the 2014 Homecoming parade.
