One of Lafayette County’s favorite quirky holiday bands, The Yes Virginias, will be playing at the Loft on Main space above the B.T.C Old Fashioned Grocery in downtown Water Valley Friday, Dec. 11.

After three years performing under the name 34th Street, the 2015 season marks the return of the original Yes Virginias line-up with the fabulous addition of everybody’s favorite drummer, Ricky Burkhead.

The band will play a set of their swinging Christmas tunes in the intimate concert space and will welcome several special guests for a Christmas jam to help create the ultimate Water Valley Christmas variety show.

Doors open for social hour at 6 p.m. with music starting at 7.

There is a suggested donation of $10 at the door.

According to its Facebook page; “The Yes Virginias, the South’s hottest holiday musical extravaganza, was born on the back of a flatbed truck in 2007 and they look forward to Christmas like toddlers. An affinity for red, green, silver and gold props, feather boas, and a childlike, although some might say childish, enthusiasm drives the swinging boogie-woogie, blues, rock and soul sounds of the band. Then, add in a sprinkling of tinsel tunes, songs about Santa, plenty of costume changes and you have, The Yes Virginias.”

“We have it on good authority that The Yes Virginias are Santa’s favorite band in the Oxford area and our agenda remains unchanged; to have a whole lot of fun with a bunch of crazy swinging Christmas tunes, obscurities and holiday classics from the likes of Brenda Lee, Elvis Presley, Charles Brown, Eartha Kitt and many others. We also include, and are in fact quite proud of, our half dozen or so original Christmas songs,” Guyer said.

“We might be even prouder of our props and costumes,” Guyer added. “We’ll go pretty far to get a laugh or a groan out of ourselves and/or the audience. We’re into detail, both in how we play and what we look like. We have red maracas, green guitar cords, Christmas trolls, shiny gold spray-painted shoes, hand-crafted mini Christmas cowboy hats and more.”

Members of The Yes Virginias include: Guyer – guitar/vocals/ukulele; Lisa Harrison – vocals/jingle bells/boas; Kerry O’Donoghue – bass guitar; Amy Fisher – keyboards; and Ricky Burkhead – drums/percussion.

The Virginias are experts at entertaining and are ideal for holiday parties, craft fairs and nursing homes of all kinds.
