Update: Shelia VanDevender happily announces that Christopher Newman will be going to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

The University of Mississippi alum and lifelong Ole Miss fan, Christopher Newman, had recently fallen into a semi-coma on September 29, 2015. He remains in coma, but his mother, Shelia VanDevender, is hopeful he will recover.

VanDevender posted on HottyToddy.com’s Facebook, If You Love Oxford, MS, and Ole Miss…: “I am asking for prayers tonight for my son, Christopher Newman. He is still in a coma and is responding more and more everyday. We are asking for prayer that he gets accepted into the Shepherd Center in Atlanta to make a FULL RECOVERY! Keep praying and believing our miracle is coming!”

Her post received over 365 comments, 509 shares and over 1,700 likes.

Chris Newman was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2007 when he was in ninth grade. After the diagnosis, he was at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital for only a week then.

Relatively healthy, he was not deterred from the diagnosis as he played all sports except football in high school. At the University of Mississippi, he was a Campus Senator and later graduated last spring with a degree in Education. His mother said he did not experience any medical complications since 2009 until he fell into a semi-coma last September.
