New to Oxford, Hooked is a growing food and beverage discount app that helps users decide where to eat while also saving them a few bucks.
The app offers real-time specials from 30 plus popular restaurants on campus and around town. Users can scroll through a newsfeed of appetizing images displaying the closest time sensitive deals around town. The best part about Hooked App: it is FREE.
How it Works
First, download Hooked from the App Store and Google Play Store. The next time you are hungry, open the app to view the real-time feed of all restaurants that have exclusive deals at that time. The deals are all location based, so the restaurants are closest to you will appear at the top. When you decide which deal you want to redeem simply go to the restaurant, tap the green ‘USE IT NOW’ button and enjoy! Show your redemption to the cashier to receive the deal.
Ole Miss student, Luke Faulconer, first heard about the app from a friend at Michigan State.
“One day, I was talking to my buddy, who goes to Michigan State, and he was telling me about an app that everyone loved and used all the time. He isn’t too tech-savvy himself, so I knew it was worth checking out,” Faulconer said. “I downloaded the app and absolutely loved the concept. I knew it was an app that I would use, and that it needed to be introduced to Ole Miss.”
Shortly after being introduced to the Hooked App, Faulconer became the Market Manager of Hooked for the Ole Miss region.
Over winter break, Faulconer spent his time introducing the app to dozens of restaurants around town. As a result, students can expect to see a packed schedule of amazing deals and even some free food events in the coming weeks.
“There is no better way to connect with millennials, bring in new customers and increase brand awareness for restaurants,” Falconer said. “The app itself is amazing, but the Hooked team is what makes everything so successful. The amount of dedication and creativity that everyone on the team possesses is incredible. We truly want restaurant partners to have tremendous success working with us and that is why Hooked itself is such a distinctive and special company.”
From coffee in the morning to drinks after class, Hooked has you covered. Students have the opportunity to save anywhere between $1 to $12 per redemption. The deals are time sensitive lasting typically one to three hours each so the feed is kept fresh with new deals throughout the day.
For example, Chick-Fil-A is a participating sponsor. Restaurants use Hooked as a medium for promoting exclusive deals such as buy one get one free options, happy hours and much more.
Where Hooked Came From
Hooked was founded by college students for college students by Tim Rothwell.
“We were tired of eating Chipotle every single day and wished we had a tool that showed us nearby restaurants running deals,” Rothwell said. “After digging deeper, we realized that restaurants needed an effective way to connect with people on their phones and convert them into customers.”
Hooked was born shortly thereafter. It was originally launched in the fall of 2013 at the University of Texas, where it proved its ability to add value to student’s lives. The following year, Hooked branched out to Michigan, Wisconsin, Michigan State and Illinois. The mobile app has spread rapidly around college campuses in the U.S., with some of the most successful markets capturing over 50 percent of the student body as active users.
Hooked is currently live in 23 college campuses across the country, including neighboring SEC schools: Alabama and Georgia. The Hooked team plans to expand to every major college town in the nation.
