The contest was founded in 1998 by two local playwrights, Neil White and LW Thomas, and has grown into one of the largest and most successful 10-minute play contests in America.

Every year, playwrights from all over the world compete for the $1,000 grand prize. In addition to the cash prize, the winning play will also be produced in October at the annual Theatre Oxford Ten Minute Play Festival.
