A new on-campus music group is holding its first interest meeting this week to drum up participation and fill the campus with a cappella sounds.

Ole Miss theatre student Faith Janicki came up with Treble Rebels when she arrived and learned they had nothing comparable to a show choir for students to dance, sing and perform outside of mainstage productions.

“I think an a cappella group would open a lot of opportunity for musical students. It’s an opportunity for students to self-direct and have the chance to make their own music that they put together themselves,” Janicki said. “A cappella singing is very different from normal chorus, so it’ll be exciting for the students to have this group. I’m also looking to create a close-knit friendly environment where students can make mistakes with their music because music, especially a cappella is hard — not to mention the addition of dancing! Students will have a chance to choreograph their own works.”

Though from a military family, Janicki found roots in her Manhattan, Kansas, high school show choir, performing for events around town and making close friends with her fellow groupmates.

Janicki will hold an interest meeting at 5 p.m. Friday in Isom Hall. Though the theatre department is supporting her in this venture, membership is open to any student no matter their major or background.
