Ole Miss is still trying to finalize its 2027 signing class, but it’s also already working on building another top 15 recruiting class.
The Rebels picked up their second commitment on Tuesday, and it’s a big one. Four star defensive tackle Antavion Allen is staying home, choosing Ole Miss over LSU, Alabama and a long list of national offers.
Allen, a 6 foot 4, 289 pound lineman from Hattiesburg, is the No. 92 overall player in the class and the No. 2 prospect in Mississippi. Anytime you keep a player with that profile inside state lines, it matters. When you do it early in a cycle, it sets a tone.

One of the things that pushed Ole Miss ahead was simple communication. Allen said the staff talked with him legitimately every day during the open window, and that consistency stuck with him. It also helped that the literal distance wasn’t much of a hurdle, with Hattiesburg sitting roughly four hours from Oxford. The Rebels have made it clear they want Mississippi’s best, and Allen felt that.
This isn’t a one off trend either. Ole Miss signed three of the top four prospects in Mississippi in the 2027 cycle with Mitchell Turner, Ben’Jarvius Shumaker and Antonio Berry.
Allen fits right into that blueprint. He’s coming off a season with 18.5 sacks and has his eyes on topping that number while getting back to the state championship game.
For Ole Miss, this commitment is worth celebrating. Not just because Allen is a top 100 defensive tackle, but because he becomes the second member of the 2028 class and the second in-state player to jump on board.
He joins three star wide receiver Latedrick Mallard, giving the Rebels an early foundation built entirely from Mississippi talent.
It’s still early, but Ole Miss is already stacking pieces for the future. Keeping Antavion Allen home is another sign that the Rebels are doing exactly what they need to do.
