The Ole Miss Rebels are the 2013 SEC basketball champions after a strong second half comeback at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN. Final score 66-63.

Editor’s Note. Update from HottyToddy.com sports blogger and photographer Peyton Spear, who attended today’s championship game in Nashville:

“Just when it looked like the Rebels were going to be on the fence once again to make it to the NCAA Tournament, they solidified their spot to the big dance by defeating the mighty Florida Gators. Trailing by 12 at the half, senior Murphy Holloway and junior college transfer Marshall Hendrson responded in the second half with strong desire to take the title back to Oxford. With an electric crowd and belief that the Rebels could pull out the victory, the long awaited trophy is coming home.”

Many Pompeians were buried alive at their tables, and thousands of large wine jugs, or amphorae, were preserved in place. Read More

The Chickasaw –– Spartans of the Mississippi Valley

By: Jack Mayfield
Last week I wrote about the arrival of the Chickasaw Indians into this area of north Mississippi. If you will recall, there were two groups of Indians who made their way from the Northern Plains of the American Continent to the “Father of Great Waters” (later known as the Mississippi River) and then into the area that would become the states of Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama. Read More
