Burger Watch: Irie on the Square

More than oysters stirring Oxonians’ souls

HottyToddy.com readers recently decided Irie on the Square has the second best burgers in town. It’s a restaurant primarily known for seafood, including raw oysters. Upon investigation into what makes their burgers so special, it appears it must be the variety.
Irie’s burgers are cooked-to-order over grilled charcoal and come in several setups:

• BBQ burger – covered in BBQ sauce and topped with slaw
• Black and blue burger – blackened with Cajun seasoning and covered with blue cheese
• Jamaican jerk burger – drenched in Jamaican jerk sauce
• Chili cheese burger – covered with homemade chili, shredded cheddar, and jalapeno
• Fried green “BLT” burger – fried green tomatoes, applewood bacon, lettuce, and horseradish dip
• Hawaiian burger – served with grilled pineapple, bacon, BBQ sauce, and pepperjack cheese
• Inside-out cheese burger – the cheese is cooked inside the burger
• Mushroom and Swiss burger – sautéed mushrooms and melted Swiss cheese
