Ford Center Knows When to Hold ‘Em

October and November bring a variety of entertainment opportunities at the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts at Ole Miss, not the least of which is a performance by award-winning singer, songwriter, producer, photographer, actor, and author Kenny Rogers. The Gambler himself hits the Ford Center stage October 10 at 7 p.m.

October 15 brings the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble. Regarded as one of the greatest folkloric dance ensembles in the world, the group performs the traditional folk music and dance of Hungary and Hungarian-inhabited areas. Showtime is 7 p.m.

The Ford Center dials up the heat on November 4 at 7p.m. with a presentation of Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, one of the most revered novels of the twentieth-century. The production tells the dystopian tale of a bleak future where literature and knowledge are on the edge of extinction.

An Acoustic Evening with Mary Chapin Carpenter and Shawn Colvin on Stage Together is 
November 10 at 7 p.m. The two acclaimed songwriters and longtime friends share the stage as an intimate duo, performing material spanning their vast catalogues, as well as some of their favorite songs.

On November 13 at 7 p.m., “Letters Home” puts the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq front and center by bringing to life actual letters written by soldiers serving in the Middle East.

Mississippi Symphony Orchestra with the University of Mississippi Chorus will perform Giuseppe Verdi’s “Verdi’s Requiem,” one of the monumental choral/orchestral works of the Romantic era, on November 17 at 3 p.m. “Verdi’s Requiem” is set in seven movements: Requiem and Kyrie, Dies Irae, Offertorio, Sanctus, Agnus Dei, Lux aeterna, and Libera me.
