Ole Miss Opens Practice for 2013-14 Season

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss women’s basketball team kicked off the 2013-14 season and the Matt Insell era with the first official team practice on Tuesday (Oct. 1).

“It’s always good to get out on the court that first time,” said Insell. “We’re going to work hard each and every practice as we prepare for the upcoming season. Things are not going to be easy for this group and they will get tired and frustrated from time to time, but if they give me their best effort each day, I believe that we can and will have a really good season.”

The Rebels return eight letterwinners, including 2012 All-SEC preseason selection senior point guard Valencia McFarland. McFarland, along with junior Tia Faleru, return as Ole Miss’ top scorers from a year ago with 11.4 points per game. In fact, Ole Miss returns four of its top five scorers from a year ago and also its top two rebounders in Faleru and classmate Danielle McCray.

Donning the Navy and Red for the first time are freshmen Tianah Alvarado, Bretta Hart, Claudia Ortiz Ledesma and Shequila Joseph. Fans can catch the Rebels at the Tad Pad on Sunday (Nov. 3) when they take on Christian Brothers University in their lone exhibition contest of the season. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. and admission is free. Ole Miss kicks of the 2013-14 regular-season on Friday (Nov.8) when it welcomes the Jacksonville State Gamecocks to Oxford. Game time is set for 5 p.m. and is the first game of a double header with the Ole Miss men’s team.

Women’s basketball season tickets are on sale and can be purchased for $50. For additional ticket information go to OleMissTix.com or call the Ole Miss Ticket Office at 1-888-REB-TKTS (732-8587.)
