During decade 1950-1959, the Ole Miss football team had the second highest winning percentage among major independents and teams playing in the major conferences. The Rebels won 78% of their games. Many consider the 1959 team one of the best teams in NCAA history. The 1959 squad scored 325 points, while surrendering only 21. Eight of their 11 games ended in shutouts.
