Team Tryouts Set for October 21 and 22
Oxford, Mississippi – The Oxford Chargers Fast Pitch Softball team will be holding tryouts for the 2014 team Monday, October 21 and Tuesday, October 22 at the Oxford High School Softball Field.
Tryouts will start immediately after school (as close to 3:30 p.m. as possible) on these two days, according to Oxford High School Softball Coach Steve Blackmon. All middle school and high school players who wish to try out for the high school team are encouraged to do so.
“We have one team that plays both Varsity and Junior Varsity schedule because I am big on team unity and identity, and also because I want all the girls to gain experience,” said Coach Blackmon.
During team tryouts, coaches will observe the various facets of the sport: hitting, fielding, throwing mechanics and arm strength, running speed and overall athleticism. Those interested in trying out will need to bring their own softball equipment: gloves, bats, cleats, and batting gloves. Catcher’s equipment, balls and limited bats will be available from Oxford High School during the tryouts. There is no cost to try out.
