“Even though the Veterans Day programs do not actually fall on Veterans Day, we wanted our students to have an opportunity to honor our veterans and learn the important contributions veterans make for our country’s freedom,” said Oxford School Superintendent Brian Harvey. “Our hope is that we can continue to honor our veterans annually.”

During each Veterans Day program, the Oxford High School Marine Corps JROTC will begin the program with a Presentation of the Colors. Oxford High School JROTC Instructor MSgt. Richard McCarty will share with school students a brief overview of the Color Guard’s purpose and what each flag in the Color Guard represents.

Also, University of Mississippi’s Assistant Marine Corps instructor Gunnery Sgt. Stephen Roberts will follow with a description of what each branch of the United States military plays in protecting our country. He will explain to students why veterans are important to our country and ways in which students can honor our current and former military heroes. At the end of each program, students will have a chance to ask presenters questions.
