BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss freshman Robert Nkemdiche was named Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week after a breakout performance against Troy, the league office announced Monday.

Starting at defensive tackle, Nkemdiche led an Ole Miss defense that held Troy to -13 rushing yards in a 51-21 win. It marked the first time an opponent has failed to break even rushing against the Rebels since Mississippi State in 2008 (-64).

The 6-foot-5, 294-pound rookie finished with four tackles, including two tackles for loss and his first career sack along with a QB pressure.

Nkemdiche, a preseason SEC Freshman of the Year pick by some publications, leads all SEC freshmen with 0.88 tackles for loss per outing.
