It’s time again for teams to sit at home and anxiously wait to hear what bowl game they will be preparing for over the next month. Some teams will be ecstatic and others will maybe hang their head because they don’t get into a bowl they wanted.

The SEC is the biggest name that bowls look to for teams every off-season and right now, there is some uncertainty where the bowl-eligible teams from the conference will go.

After Alabama’s stunning loss to Auburn in the Iron Bowl last weekend, the Crimson Tide have been knocked out of the SEC championship game and possibly the BCS National Championship game. Right now, Auburn and Missouri both control their own destinies to some extent. Auburn is ranked number three behind Florida State and Ohio State. Missouri is ranked number five behind Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State and Florida State.

In order for the SEC to have a shot at an eighth national championship in a row, they will need either Florida State or Ohio State to lose in their conference championship games. Auburn does have an outside chance to jump Ohio State and get into the national championship if they dominate Missouri in the SEC Championship and Ohio State struggles against Michigan State. But even then, an appearance in the national championship isn’t guaranteed.

If the SEC were to get one team in the national championship game, that would leave the door open for another SEC team to go to a BCS bowl. If two teams from the SEC go to the BCS bowls, then that means better bowl games for the rest of the SEC. Right now, HottyToddy.com is assuming that at least one SEC team gets into the national championship game.

Here is the sports staff’s bowl projections.
