VOX Presents 'Poetry and Prison'

VOX prison poetry outlinesVOX Artist Series presents “Poetry and Prison: an Evening with Judith Tannenbaum” on April 15, 2014 at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center in Oxford.
This event is presented by VOX PRESS to bring about awareness of its Prison Writes Initiative, a creative writing program designed especially for Mississippi prison inmates. Judith Tannenbaum is an expert on teaching creative writing in maximum security prisons. Her book Disguised as a Poem is a highly acclaimed memoir about her experience teaching poetry writing at San Quentin prison during the 1980s. Crowd discussion with the author is highly encouraged.
Doors open at 6 p.m., and the event starts at 7. The event’s musical guest is Oxford-based Mayflower of Death. There is no cover for admission. Food and drink will be available for a small donation.
