The Ole Miss Rebel baseball team steps back into conference action this weekend when they take on the Auburn Tigers at home.
No. 16 Ole Miss (22-8,4-5 SEC) snapped a four game losing streak with a 11-1 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Wednesday. Senior Austin Anderson comes in with a .364 batting average, with one home run and 16 RBI.
Anderson and two of his teammates find themselves in the top five in the SEC in hits with: Auston Bousfield (T3rd-42), Anderson (T3rd-42) and Will Allen (5th-41).
Senior catcher Allen leads the team in RBI (33), which also ties him for the league lead. He is sixth in the league in home runs (4) this season.
Auburn (19-11, 5-4 SEC). They lost a midweek game to Samford, prior to dropping a series to the Missouri Tigers over the weekend. The Tigers are led at the plate by Damek Tomshca who is hitting at a .393 clip on five home runs and 21 RBI.
As a club, Auburn is swinging at a .299 clip, with 11 home runs and 135 RBI through 30 games thus far on the season.
This weekend, Auburn sends to the mound senior right-hander Dillon Ortman (Friday), freshman, right-hander Keegan Thompson (Saturday) and senior left-hander Michael O’Neal (Sunday). While coach Mike Bianco will send to the mound: junior, Chris Ellis (Friday), sophomore, Christian Trent (Saturday) and junior, Sam Smith (Sunday) for the Rebels.
Ole Miss and Auburn have faced each other on the diamond 157 times in the all-time series. The Tigers hold a slim 80-77 lead in the series, but if the Rebels can sweep this weekend it will all be knotted back up at 80 games apiece.
