California Chrome Wins the 140th Kentucky Derby

In the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby at Church Hill Downs the favorite California Chrome won by five lengths.
California Chrome came into the Derby as the out-right leader and experts expected the colt to win. Pundits very had the three-year old thoughrobred as a 2-1 odds favorite. Out of the gate, Chrome got a good start to the inside track with Uncle Sigh.
California Chrome stayed at the front of the pack through most of the race in third position, right behind Uncle Sigh and Chitu.
California Chrome was followed by Commanding Curve and Danza at the finish line. Chrome crossed the finish line at 2:03.66. With this win, he captured his fifth straight major victory.
Fans in attendance for Saturday’s Derby set the second largest record Church Hill Downs crowd at 164,906.
Up next is the Preakness on May, 17, followed by the Belmont Stakes on June, 8th.
