Ole Miss redshirt-freshman punter Will Gleeson was named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week Monday after his fine effort against LSU.
Gleeson pinned LSU inside their 10-yard line four times in six punts to bolster the Rebels’ defensive effort that allowed only 10 points. He helped limit the Tigers to zero punt return yards, and he also booted his 10th 50-yard punt in 38 attempts this season.
A native of Melbourne, Australia, who is competing in his first year of American-style football, Gleeson has helped the Rebels rank second in the SEC and fourth nationally in net punting with a 42.8 average. He is among the nation’s leaders with 20 of his 38 punts landing inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.
Gleeson has twice previously been named National Punter of the Week (against Boise State and Tennessee).
