Eating Oxford
Fresh Out of Water: FINS Fish and Oyster Company
The newest addition to Oxford’s Square is FINS Fish and Oyster Company.
The seafood restaurant presides in between Pink and Proper and the Lily Pad on Courthouse Square.
In an effort to get off campus, I convinced a friend of mine to be adventurous and try something new. We are both seafood lovers and I had noticed FINS when walking around the Square a few week earlier. So when my friend said yes, we meet up for dinner.
As we entered the uncrowned restaurant it gave us both a very sophisticated vibe and we felt out of place in our yoga pants and oversized t-shirts. After glancing at the menu, our eyes were immediately drawn to the prices. Being the broke college students that we are we felt a little guilty breaking the bank on a Thursday night, but we decided to treat ourselves anyway.
I ordered the crab cakes, which came with two sides, and I choose the fired okra and the cheese grits out of a large mouthwatering selection. The grits were fabulous, but the okra wasn’t what I was expecting. The crab cakes themselves were phenomenal topped with a delicious sauce.
The ambiance of the restaurant was very cool complete with exposed brick and an unique bar. My friend and I were very intrigued by their list of drinks eager to try all the martini choices when we turn 21.
I was very impressed by what FINS is trying to accomplish over on the Square. And I cannot wait to go back and see what the catch of the day will be. But next time I will bring the parents.

Went to try it out and can honestly say it was a big disappointment. When the waitress says to you she had to return the oysters to the kitchen because some of them looked bad and she would not eat them, From the appetizers to the main course, it was mediocre at best. It really tells you just what is coming out of the kitchen. Freshness will doom a seafood restaurant fast and we will not be back.
