Ole Miss defensive backs Senquez Golson and Cody Prewitt have accepted invitations to the 2015 Reese’s Senior Bowl, set for January 24 in Mobile, Alabama.
The teammates are the first Rebels to be invited to the Senior Bowl since Shay Hodge, John Jerry and Dexter McCluster in 2009.
“It’s always great for our Gulf Coast football fans to see and meet the SEC players each and every year,” said Reese’s Senior Bowl Executive Director Phil Savage.
Golson, a native of Pascagoula, Mississippi, is a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award and Jim Thorpe Award. The 5-foot-9 cornerback leads the SEC and ranks second nationally with nine interceptions, while also leading the SEC with 16 passes defended. He is the nation’s active leader with 15 career interceptions, which is tied for fourth-most in Ole Miss history.
“Senquez Golson has been a ball magnet this year with nine interceptions on the season,” Savage said. “He has made a huge impact on the Ole Miss team this year.”
Prewitt, from Bay Springs, Mississippi, is a preseason All-American and All-SEC performer who is rated by some draft analysts as the top safety in the country. Through 10 games, he has 50 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions. He is also a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award for the second straight year.
“Cody Prewitt is a big, productive safety that has showcased his skills in the SEC as an All-American caliber player over the past two seasons,” Savage said.
The Reese’s Senior Bowl will invite 110 players to fill the rosters of the North and South squads for this year’s game. Practices are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015. The game is set for Saturday, Jan. 24 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile.
All of the practices and the game will be televised by NFL Network.
