Rebels Host TCU in part of SEC/Big 12 Challenge
The Ole Miss Rebel basketball team returns to the hardwood Thursday night to take part in the SEC vs. Big 12 challenge as they host the TCU Horned Frogs. Tip off is at 8 p.m., as ESPNU will carry the game.
Ole Miss (5-1) is coming off a huge weekend as they claimed the Emerald Coast Classic after taking down No. 23 Creighton and Cincinnati. The Rebels had huge performances by senior Jarvis Summers and junior Stephan Moody over the weekend.
In Saturday night’s game, Moody scored a career-high 26 points, including 17 in the second half against the Cincinnati Bear Cats.
Coach Andy Kennedy’s squad ranks second in the conference in free throw attempts by hitting 76.8 precent. Six Rebels are shooting over 72.5 precent from the line, including Moody who is 24-of-26 (.923).
The Horned Frogs are prefect on the season at 7-0 after knocking off Bradley 57-49 and Mississippi State 61-52 to claim the Corpus Christi Coastal Classic title last week. TCU is led by senior point guard Kyan Anderson who is averaging 12.7 points per game and 3.7 assists a game.
Thursday evening will by the fifth time that the Rebels and the Horned Frogs have meet on the court, with Ole Miss holding a 3-1 advantage in the series. The last time these to met was back in 2011 in the Virgin Islands Paradise Jam 80-69.
In the SEC vs. Big 12 challenge, Ole Miss is 16-18 all-time against current members, having taken on the Texas Longhorns the most of all and having a 6-8 record against them. Kennedy is 3-1 vs. the Big 12 at Ole Miss.
