Ole Miss’ Senquez Golson Wins CFPA Elite Defensive Back Trophy
Ole Miss cornerback Senquez Golson has been named the winner of the 2014 College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Elite Defensive Back Trophy. The award honors Golson for the top career defensive back performance over the past four seasons of FBS football.
Golson, the Rebels’ first consensus and unanimous All-American since 2008, led the SEC and finished second nationally with a school record-tying 10 interceptions this season. One of his interceptions sealed a 23-17 victory over then top-ranked Alabama, while he returned another 59 yards for a touchdown against Louisiana-Lafayette.
A three-year starter from Pascagoula, Mississippi, Golson finished the 2014 season with a nation-best 16 career interceptions. Teammate Cody Prewitt (12 career interceptions) is the only other SEC player with more than eight career picks.
This is the seventh year for the CFPA’s player and team performance honors. Twenty-eight individual winners have been first round NFL Draft selections. Golson is the second CFPA winner at Ole Miss, following star running back Dexter McCluster (2009).

Isn’t Golson leaving Ole Miss and transferring back up to Memphis? What a shame to lose this talented player……
