Meek School of Journalism’s Alumni Update: Josh Ellis
Originally from Longview, Texas, Josh Ellis (’08) has had a particular interest and affinity for providing content and writing for sports and other publications since his time at the University of Mississippi.
“I think my time in Oxford and on campus, as well as the Meek School, was really influential in shaping my career in ways that I couldn’t have previously imagined,” Ellis said. “There is a certain culture of knowledge and inquisitiveness in Oxford and at the University, and so many smart people to learn from. During my time at the University, I was so interested in learning about the history and the people in Oxford, including those [people] before my time. This has continued in my work with sports writing and business, as well as personal development.”
Within two months of graduating from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelors of Art in Journalism, Ellis became a staff writer for the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. During this time, he gathered and wrote news for feature stories and columns for the official team magazine, as well as assisted with game day programs and the website. Ellis worked with the club full-time for around four years and still co-hosts a weekly video podcast and contributes editorial work for its website.
In 2012, Ellis became the feature editor of SUCCESS. SUCCESS is a national newsstand title that features positivity and promotes personal development. He has been able to draw on his experiences as a freelance writer for several publications to coordinate a long list of writers and contributing editors for the publication. Ellis also assists in art choices, design, and digital content implementation, really honing on his skills for content and digital publications.
Ellis has contributing work to numerous publications, including: research blurbs for Maxim; lifestyle blogs for Millennials on Arkleus.com, now known as thrivewire.com; and magazine articles for Beckett Media.
