Anthony Burgess said, “It’s always good to remember where you come from and celebrate it. To remember where you come from is part of where you’re going.”

That’s a lesson that Oxford Intermediate School (OIS) sixth graders from the INSIGHTS Program learned firsthand when they recently hosted a Family History Museum in the school library.
To showcase their learning, students curated their own museum collection of family history artifacts, which parents and student peers had the opportunity to peruse. During the school event, students shared and prepared their favorite family recipe for their Family History Museum guests to sample.
“As part of the month-long school project, INSIGHTS students practiced interviewing and writing skills, while also creating their personal historical timeline,” said INSIGHTS advisor and OIS teacher Mary Martha Crowe. “Through their personal historical timeline, our students were able to write a part of their future personal history, or rather, the part of their life where they are planning to go. It was rewarding to see how much hard work and effort they put into this school project.”
OIS teachers Mary Martha Crowe and Liz Phillips teach INSIGHTS fifth-grade and sixth-grade students. INSIGHTS is the Oxford School District’s program for intellectually gifted students in grades 2-6.
