Thanksgiving is a holiday full of traditions, the most recognizable being the turkey many sit down to enjoy. This year, Dixie Crawfish Company is offering a spin on the main course. They’re deep frying it.
“I’ve been frying turkeys for years for friends and family,” said Dhane Burton, owner of Dixie Crawfish Company. “And I don’t know of anybody in the area that offers them, so I decided to.”
The company is selling 10 to 12-pound turkeys for $60 this Thanksgiving. The birds are typically fried in peanut oil, but Burton plans to use soybean oil to accommodate for those with peanut allergies, and he will be using his crawfish spice blend for flavor.
“It’s got a good spice to it, and it’s very tender,” Burton said. “It’s not overly spicy at all.”
Burton said he has gotten a good response from customers, and is looking to offer the dish for Christmas as well.
“I’ve had deep fried turkey before and it was amazing,” said Travis Lindsay. “I’m excited to try Dixie’s version.”
Orders can be placed through Dixie Crawfish Company’s Facebook page or by calling 662-571-4425, and will be ready for pick up the day before Thanksgiving or the day of before noon at 765 N. Lamar Blvd. Kindly place all orders on or before Monday, Nov. 23.
