Wounded Warriors of MS Donates Hams to Veterans for Christmas
Wounded Warriors of Mississippi, a nonprofit organization, donated 26 hams to veterans at their Christmas party this year. Founded and directed by Cheryl Bruce, WW of Mississippi donates time, money and assistance to veterans wounded since the 9/11 attacks in 2001.
“This is the first year that hams have been donated,” Bruce said. “We donated them to the ones that came to our Christmas party.”
The Panola County Fire Department donated the 26 hams and WW of Mississippi gave them to the veterans. According to Bruce, some firefighters even donated their own money.
Aside from donating hams during Christmas for wounded veterans, WW of Mississippi also donates camouflage backpacks, gloves and monetary funds to Mississippi veterans.
“We can always use camouflage backpacks,” Bruce said. “We can use gloves with them and, of course, always monetary donations. We have a WW that is living in a mobile home with black mold in it, and we are working toward helping them with the down payment for a new one.”
The organization also helps connect veterans that need further assistance unattainable by WWM. Their services help bring many Mississippi veterans together throughout the year. Special events for 2016 are being planned now, but donations are welcome at any time. To volunteer for WWM, click here and to donate click here.
