Oxford Chargerettes dance to Beyonce’s “Upgrade U.”
Oxford High School’s dance program started four years ago. This year the Chargerette dance team received the superior trophy at the Universal Dance Association (UDA) summer camp at University of Southern Mississippi.
The superior trophy is awarded to the dance team that earns the most superior blue ribbons throughout the camp session. Oxford High School dominated this competition, earning 26 ribbons for different routines. The Chargerettes also took home third place in the home routine evaluation.
Head coach Robin Lyons said, “I’m so proud of these girls and their accomplishments during UDA Camp this summer! I can’t wait to see what they bring to Competitions and Nationals this season! I’m ready for a busy and rewarding year with this team!”

Co-captain, Ansley Howell, is looking forward to the upcoming season.
“Our goal for this year is to win state in Jackson in December,” said Howell.
Howell and four other teammates received All-American honors at UDA camp. This honor allows them to perform in London at a Thanksgiving Day Parade. Meena Page, Katherine Poole, Ellie Hinton, Madisyn Martin and Howell will be representing Oxford High School in the parade this November.

The Chargerette dance team has been a work in the making. When the dance team started, they didn’t perform at any football games. This year they will be taking the routines they learned at UDA camp to pep rallies and halftime performances.
Co-captain, Ellie Hinton, said, “I’m excited for us to show what we’ve got. Dancing has been great every year, but this year is going to be stronger than ever.”
