Ole Miss’ offensive line will be without Landsharks Laremy Tunsil, Fahn Cooper, Aaron Morris and Justin Bell during the 2016 season.
The Rebels return experience, however, as Robert Conyers, Rod Taylor, Javon Patterson and Sean Rawlings all return to man the offensive line.
The Rebels still need to find replacements for NFL Draft Picks Laremy Tunsil and Fahn Cooper. Ole Miss currently has Alex Givens, Greg Little and Rod Taylor taking snaps at Tunsil’s former position.
During the first practice of fall this Monday, August 8, the Rebels’ first team line featured Givens at left tackle, Javon Patterson and Jordan Sims at the guards with Robert Conyers at center and Sean Rawlings at right tackle.
Conyers returns after tearing his ACL during the 2015 season. Conyers is the lone senior on the offensive line. The senior said that the leadership mentality that comes with his experience is something that he embraces.
“I’ve got to show them the right way to do things, the right way to practice and the right way to be tough about anything that happens in a game physically or mentally,” Conyers said.
Patterson returns as a sophomore to the offensive line after playing a lot during his true freshman season before spraining his ankle.
“I took away from that first year just building confidence,” Patterson said. “Those guys like Fahn and Laremy really helped me in game situations to be controlled and lock in. “
Patterson said that he took valuable lessons away from Tunsil who was drafted in the first round by the Dolphins and two–year starter at tackle Fahn Cooper.
“They taught me a lot of different type of techniques and how to run uptempo. It was valuable experience because they’re great players,” Patterson said.
