After a personal-best time in her first collegiate meet, Ole Miss cross country runner Anna Elkin was named the Southeastern Conference Woman’s Freshman Runner of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Elkin set a personal-best in the 5K while helping the women’s team claim a first-place finish in the inaugural Rebel Invite on Friday.

Elkin’s time of 17:40.4 beat her previous personal best by nearly 17 seconds (17:57.3 in high school).

The native of Carrollton, Texas, finished 13th individually, while being the first freshman to finish the race at the meet.

The Rebels will be back in action Friday, September 30, when they travel to South Bend, Indiana, for the Notre Dame Invitational.
