Ole Miss soccer has been named a recipient of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2015-16 academic year, the organization announced Thursday.
The award honors all teams with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher during the 2015-16 academic year. The Rebels received the award for the sixth-straight season and 12th time in program history after posting the SEC’s highest GPA at 3.62. South Carolina was the next closest school with a 3.51 GPA as a total of nine SEC teams made the list.
“This is an important award for our team as we take academics very seriously,” head coach Matthew Mott said. “It’s nice to see them awarded for their hard work in the classroom.”
Overall, the Rebels’ 3.62 GPA in 2015-16 ranked tied for sixth among all NCAA Division I women’s soccer teams across the country, and first among power-five schools.
Ole Miss returns to the pitch Thursday night at Alabama with first kick set for 7 p.m. in Tuscaloosa. Following road play, the Rebels return home Sunday to face No. 16 Florida at 5 p.m. in a match that will air live on SEC Network.
