Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly was involved in a scuffle Friday night during his brother’s high school football game in Buffalo, N.Y. Shortly after the incident, Rebels coach Hugh Freeze released a statement on Twitter, saying the issue will be addressed when Kelly returns to campus.
On Friday, Kelly was caught on video running across the field after his brother, Casey Kelly, took a late hit while playing for St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute against Bishop Timon-St. Jude. The Ole Miss quarterback was restrained while shoving took place between players nearby. Chad Kelly reportedly did not throw punches or join the fight.
It’s a good thing for Freeze, Chad Kelly and Ole Miss that the situation wasn’t more serious. It’s understandable that the older Kelly would want to defend his brother, but it’s a strange look to see people hold back an SEC quarterback during a high school football game. It would have been better for Chad Kelly to exercise more judgment and avoid the fracas.
It will be interesting to see what comes of the incident after Ole Miss’ bye week is complete.
