Evan Engram got robbed for the Mackey Award
Evan Engram is the best tight end in the country. But apparently Mackey Award voters missed that.
Instead, those voters chose Michigan’s Jake Butt. Engram wasn’t even a finalist for the award. He was passed over for Alabama’s O.J. Howard and Clemson’s Jordan Leggett.
But what part of his performance keeps him from being one of the three best tight ends in college football? The Ole Miss star is first among FBS tight ends in receiving yards (926), second in catches (65) and tied for second in receiving touchdowns (8). He has four 100-yard receiving games and two more 95-yard games. And he put up those numbers while playing only 11 games.
Putting his numbers side-by-side with the three finalists is jaw-dropping. Even against last year’s winner, former Arkansas TE Hunter Henry, he stacks up well.
