Oxford Chargers Edged New Hope Trojans Friday Night In Oxford

The Oxford High School Boys Basketball team capped off their “Senior Night” with a win over the New Hope Trojans 73-69 in the Region 2, 5A championship on Friday night.

The Chargers (20-6) trailed the Trojans (17-8) by halftime and opened up the half on a 17-4 run. The Chargers continued to find success in the third quarter.
Jarkel Joiner, the number 1 nationally ranked scorer in high school basketball, averaging 38 points per game, scored 30 points. Senior Terry Williams scored 22 and Drew Bianco contributed 12 points to the Chargers.
New Hope was led by Terryonte Thomas with 20 points, Tyler Stevenson with 14, and Andrew Junkin with 9.
The game was close the entire second half. Jonker nailed a three-point shot in the closing seconds of the game, followed by a layup by Williams to cap off the Chargers’ win.
With the win, the Chargers obtained the number one seed in the region tournament, which will take place at New Hope High School on Feb. 14.
